About Jeano Roberts

Jean Roberts 1

About Jeano Roberts? Ok just Jean! Jeano was a nickname I picked up in high school ūüôā

Always been an artist. I grew up on the Space Coast of Florida and never left. Surfing Bird watching and all around enjoying the local environment is what I have always done. I paint what I am familiar with.

I remember when I was in First grade my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. My answer was an artist.

Carol Honkonen Jean's Painting instructor

Carol Honkonen

I have been painting as long as I can remember. At 13 I started taking painting lessons from a gal in Cape Canaveral. Her name is Carol Honkonen. Here she is just as I remember her!

After she closed the main studio I moved on with the regular life things, you know raising a family etc. I found out Carol was not able to instruct her Oil and Acrylic classes anymore due to health reasons. I contacted her and she suggested I start my own studio.
It was at the local elementary school that I attended as a child. I had a classroom that was perfect for art classes and workshops.  It was called Our Studio.
I stopped the classes when they turned the center back into an elementary school so I didn’t have a work place. I pretty much stopped for awhile and focused on other things.

Hand painted bikinis were next. Faye Francis was a local bathing suit designer. Not just any ordinary person, she collected BIG cats, you know, panthers, jaguars  etc. What a ride that was! Traveling to a boat show in Miami and hand painting suits on site, pretty neat! Here is a picture of Faye Francis, (bottom) she was a model and later a bikini designer. I painted Hundreds of swim suits for her. We did everything from shore birds to Big cats, lions tigers etc.

Fay Francis

¬†I started Watching this Video on Facebook and could not believe my Eyes! The girls on Spring break stopped into Faye Francis’s Bikini Shop when it was in Daytona Beach back in 1969!!!!! ¬†You will see them trying on the suits in the first few minutes of the film. ¬†How cool is that?!

Now I am back into my art and loving every minute of it!

One of my favorite things in my yard is my tiki bar.

So that has become a huge inspiration to me. A simple way to share my art that also reflects my casual beach side lifestyle.
My husband is able to collect old lumber and scraps for me to work on and he is a carpenter too. I am enjoying creating these one of a kind pieces with him.
Not only plaques but the furniture too. Transforming something that is unusable and re-purposing it is also a blast!
Nothing like taking something like head board and foot board and turning it into a totally different piece of furniture.

Or wrapping 3 sides of an old wardrobe with a painting from a photo I took in the Bahamas. So much fun to do and the results are always surprising, in a good way!

One of my goals is to teach YOU how to create your own keepsake pieces using a favorite photograph. With a little guidance, it isn’t as hard as it looks.

This video is an episode of a local Television show Focus. It is about 24 minutes long so if you would like to learn more about what I’m up to, well sit back and enjoy.

Hi, I recently purchased a stack of 1960s/1970s era portraits of women with their breasts showing. They are signed “Carol Honkonen”. Do you know if she ever painted such portraits? I can’t imagine there are many people out there with her name.
